Aug. 21, 2000
NEW ORLEANS -- Scott Sidwell, an all-conference baseball player at Tulane who also served as assistant baseball coach at the school, will return to Green Wave Athletics as Associate Athletic Director for Corporate Development, Director of Athletics Rick Dickson announced Monday.
Sidwell, who has been working in the corporate sales and stadium operations areas for the New Orleans Saints for the last three years, will make the transition to his alma mater after the Saints season opener Sept. 3.
"We are very excited to bring Scott back to our team at Tulane," Dickson said. "He is well known in the New Orleans corporate community and brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm to areas that will be a priority for Tulane Athletics over the next several years."
As associate athletic director for corporate development, Sidwell will head up the TU marketing and promotions, corporate sales and event ticket sales areas, as well as work closely with game-day activities and special events.
"I'm excited to be returning to Tulane, and to intercollegiate athletics," Sidwell said. "As a former student-athlete and coach there, I feel uniquely qualified to bring the stories of Tulane athletes and teams to local businesses."
Sidwell played baseball at Tulane in 1993 and 1994, earning All-Metro Conference honors in 1994 when he also was named Outstanding Sports Management major. He worked as an assistant baseball coach for current TU Baseball Coach Rick Jones in 1995 and '96 where his duties included coaching the hitters and catchers, assisting in recruiting student-athletes, and the operations and maintenance of Turchin Stadium.
He left Tulane in 1996 to work as group sales director for the New Orleans Zephyrs for two years. While with the Zephyrs, he implemented the team's season ticket campaigns, managed the ticket sales staff and worked with stadium management on the opening of Zephyr Field in 1997.
Sidwell has been with the Saints since 1998, working on marketing and promotions, stadium operations and corporate sales.
"We are very appreciative of the cooperation we received from Randy Mueller and the Saints during this process," Dickson said. "We will work closely with them to make sure Scott's transition to Tulane is smooth for all parties."
