Weaver Joins Tulane Athletic Media Relations Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Richie Weaver has been named an assistant director of athletic media relations by the Tulane University athletic department. A native of New Orleans, Weaver will be primarily responsible for the media relations for volleyball, baseball and women's golf, while also assisting with other sports.
A native of Meraux and a graduate of St. Bernard High School, Weaver comes to Tulane after a year as the assistant director of athletic media relations at Jacksonville University, where he was the primary contact for volleyball, baseball, women's basketball and men's and women's golf. The 2001 Dolphin baseball team posted a 39-25 record, advancing to the NCAA Regionals before being eliminated by Auburn. In addition to helping promote the Jacksonville team to a regular-season national ranking, Weaver spearheaded the successful All-America campaign for relief pitcher Casey Shumaker.
Prior to his time in Florida, Weaver served as a graduate assistant in sports information at Troy State and at Louisiana-Monroe, where he gained extensive experience in the field.
A 1998 graduate of Nicholls State University with a bachelor of arts in mass communication, Weaver served for over two years as the sports editor for The Nicholls Worth, the Nicholls State student newspaper, and as the athletics section editor of the Nicholls' yearbook. He also worked in the Colonel sports information office as an undergraduate
