NEW ORLEANS - J.D. Barnett, who won over 300 games in more than 20 years as head men's basketball coach at Louisiana Tech, VCU, Tulsa and Northwestern State, has joined the newly-reorganized external staff at Tulane University as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Development.
In addition to his coaching experience, Barnett served as director of athletics at Union Public Schools in Tulsa, Okla. From 1991-94, increasing athletics revenue by 60 percent during that time. Most recently, he was associate athletic director as well as basketball coach at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La.
"J.D. Barnett has achieved success in many arenas during his career," said Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson. "I am confident he will bring the same standards of excellence and drive for success to our renewed efforts in revenue development.
"We are in the process of setting significant goals for increasing the resources and developing facilities for our programs and J.D. will contribute to that effort."
In his capacity as senior associate AD for revenue development, Barnett will lead an external staff charged with increasing revenues, and attracting more donors and sponsors to the Green Wave program.
"I am excited about becoming a part of Rick Dickson's team," Barnett said. "Rick was the AD when I was coaching at Tulsa and did a great job. I'm very happy to be a part of the Tulane family."
The hiring of Barnett completes Dickson's reorganization of the athletics staff. Tulane alum Scott Sidwell joined the staff as Associate Athletic Director for Corporate Development earlier this month. Henry Green, who had been working with the Green Wave Athletic Association, was named External Affairs Officer and will now work with the entire external staff.
