NEW ORLEANS - Tulane Hospital for Children and ISP Sports Network, broadcasters of Tulane University football, men's and women's basketball and baseball, have teamed up to raise funds for pediatric research through a new program called Tulane Voices for Kids. Each pledge made to the Tulane Voices for Kids program will be multiplied by the number of wins in each of those sports broadcast on the Tulane ISP Sports Networks this academic year to yield a total contribution.
"As broadcasters of Tulane sports, we have an opportunity to reach a very wide audience of people who can help us support the vital work being done at Tulane Hospital for Children and Tulane University School of Medicine," said Sean Kelley, the "Voice of the Green Wave," who initiated the program. "This program is a simple way to support research for kids and cheer on the Green Wave at the same time. I'm confident that the great Tulane fans I've met will step up and support the program."
In addition to Kelley, Tulane broadcasters Steve Barrios (color analyst, football and men's basketball), Todd Graffagnini (baseball and football sideline reporter) and Tim Grubbs (women's basketball) are taking part in the Voices for Kids effort.
"We are thrilled to have the support of a network whose reach into the community is so strong," said Dr. John E. Lewy, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Tulane Hospital for Children and professor of Pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine. "The funds that Tulane Voices for Kids raises will support our efforts on behalf of all the children in our community. We, and the children we treat, are very pleased to have the support of Tulane sports fans."
Pledge cards will be available at Tulane University Hospital & Clinic, on the Tulane University campus, and at Tulane University athletic events. Contributors will receive a year-end tally of Tulane's success and their total donation at the close of the school year in May 2004. One-time contributions will also be accepted.
Physicians and other researchers associated with Tulane Hospital for Children and Tulane University School of Medicine are currently involved in research projects related to HIV/AIDS, congenital heart defects in children, and children's cancers from brain to liver to leukemia to Ewing's Sarcoma.
Tulane Hospital for Children is a teaching and research hospital affiliated with the 160-year-old Tulane University School of Medicine. Tulane Hospital for Children is located within Tulane University Hospital & Clinic.
