Ochoa Joins Tulane Staff as Senior Associate AD

NEW ORLEANS - Maria Ochoa, who spent the last 12 years as an administrator at Western Carolina University, has joined the Tulane Athletics staff as Senior Associate Athletic Director, Director of Athletics Rick Dickson announced Wednesday. Ochoa will also serve as the department's senior woman administrator to the NCAA and league office.
Ochoa's duties will include supervising several of the Green Wave sports programs, as well as oversight of all aspects of the department's student services areas, including academic support, sports medicine, equipment, and strength and conditioning. She will be a liaison to many offices on campus in addition to within the department.
"We're very pleased to have Maria join our team at Tulane," Dickson said. "She has a wealth of experience across all areas of administration and will be both a resource and an advocate for our student-athletes and coaches."
A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ochoa comes to Tulane from Western Carolina University where she was the assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator for the past four-and-a-half years after spending the previous three years as the department's head athletic trainer. She arrived in Cullowhee in 1992 as an assistant athletic trainer. In addition to her athletics duties, she was a member of the faculty at WCU from 1999 to 2002 in the College of Health and Human Performance.
Ochoa earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1990 and has a master's in education from Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. She begins her duties at Tulane immediately.
