Dear Tulane team members of fall of 2005 and spring of 2006:
In the fall of 2005, you and your Tulane Green Wave teams were returning to campus ready to tackle academic challenges, prepare and compete, and be with your Tulane teammates and friends. I, along with coaches and staff, were excited to welcome you back, so proud of such exemplary young men and women! We were proud of the way you represented your teams and Tulane University, and excited that you were poised for great seasons that year.
Looking back, there was another challenge that was in store for us all, unbeknownst to us at the time. The morning hours of Monday, August 29th changed life for all of us- our programs, our university and our community. What unfolded over the next four months was unprecedented - full of pain, loss and suffering that few beyond us will ever imagine… but it revealed your profound strength and character. In one of the darkest hours for both our university and community, you rose above personal loss and chose to do what had to be done. You forged ahead to " Carry the Torch, Represent the Name and Be the Face" of Tulane University and the City of New Orleans to the rest of the country, while competing and attending classes on four different campuses and never having a true home field. I have always taken great pride in the character of Tulane's student-athletes, but I had never experienced such a profound display of a group's determination, courage, and perseverance. You served as a shining example for all who suffered through this tragic disaster.
For me, your display of courage has never been forgotten, and now it will be recognized forever! I am honored to announce that the Tulane University Athletics Hall of Fame Committee accepted my recommendation and unanimously voted to induct all 308 student-athletes who represented Tulane Athletics during the 2005-06 year into Tulane's 2015 Hall of Fame!
Each of you will be awarded the "Billy Slatten Award", which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of Tulane Athletics. In my 29 year tenure, I've never experienced or witnessed a more deserving group.
You will be formally inducted at the 2015 Hall of a Fame dinner on Friday, November 6, 2015 and introduced at Saturday's Homecoming football game.
We have created a website to help track everyone, so please click on the link below and help us get the message to your teammates and coaches. We will use this website to update you about HOF and campus events, hotels, and transportation for Homecoming Week. In addition, we would like to post pictures and stories on the site. I am anxious for you to see all the remarkable progress of Tulane Athletics.
