John Sirmon enters his third season as the Tulane diving coach.
In two years Uptown, Sirmon has led the Green Wave divers to success, in and out of the pool.
In an unprecedented 2020-21 season, freshman Paige McKenzie earned the best mark in program history in the platform diving event at the American Athletic Conference Championship, recording an overall score of 219.45.
Sirmon arrived at Tulane in August of 2019Â after he spent the past three years with the Carolina Diving Academy.

During his tenure at Carolina Diving Academy, the team had athletes who competed in the USA Diving Senior Zone Championship Finals and the USA Diving Senior National Championship as well as the USA Diving Jr National Championship and AAU Diving National Championship Finals.

Prior to his time at Carolina Diving Academy, Sirmon spent two years as the head diving coach of the Hoover Dive Club in Hoover, Alabama, from 2014-16.Â

Sirmon previously served as the diving coach at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. During his time in Birmingham, his team set every school record. In addition, Sirmon had multiple divers that were selected as Conference Divers of the Week and had one Conference Diver of the Year. Â

Sirmon is an alum of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in religion. He dove two years and was a finalist in the men’s one meter at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Â

Sirmon received his Master of Fine Arts in Book Arts from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Sirmon continues to work closely with art as he cofounded the Alabama Art Kitchen and the Printed Page International Art Exchange Project.  Â
