
Tulane Finishes Season With Heartbreaker

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Jake Arians kicked a 37-yard field goal on Alabama-Birmingham's first possession of overtime to give the Blazers a 23-20 victory over Tulane in the season finale for both schools Saturday.
The Blazers finished 5-6 overall and 4-2 in Conference USA. The Green Wave lost its last five games to finish 3-8 and 1-5.
The Green Wave got the ball first in overtime but stalled at the UAB 15 and Seth Marler's 32-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Chris Brown. Marler also missed a 34-yard attempt as time expired in regulation.
UAB ran the ball three times for 4 yards before Arians kicked the game-winner.
Tulane led 20-10 when quarterback Patrick Ramsey fell down in his own end zone while dropping back to pass, giving UAB a safety with 7:35 left in the game.
After the free kick, the Blazers drove 55 yards in three plays to a 5-yard touchdown run by Daniel Dixon and a two-point conversion run by Percy Coleman tied it at 20 with 6:11 left.
After an exchange of punts, Tulane drove 56 yards in seven plays to set up Marler, who had made nine consecutive field goals, including a career-long 51-yarder early in the fourth quarter.
An 18-yard field goal by Arians gave the Blazers a 3-0 lead with 1:53 left in the first quarter.
Dixon's 1-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 10-0 with 2:35 left in the second quarter.
Tulane cut the lead to 10-3 on Marler's 35-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.
