Columbia, S.C. - Heavy rains and lightning have hampered the first round of play Thursday at the 1999 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional. Tulane's Pam Buff was able to complete her round and fired a one-over par 73.
The weather did force an evacuation of the course, but play resumed as of 4:20 p.m. CDT. It is unlikely that the entire first round will be completed on Thursday. A final decision on completion of the first round is expected at approximately 7:30 p.m. CDT.
Seven teams and all seven individuals were able to complete their rounds. Buff, a sophomore from Duluth, Ga., carded a 73. Of the 42 players that were able to complete the first round, Buff currently stands in a tie for sixth place. Penn State's Laura Hammond leads all players in the clubhouse with a first-round 69.
Complete results will not be available until the first round is complete.
The 54-hole 1999 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional is being contested at The University Club, Columbia, S.C., and is hosted by the University of South Carolina. Play is scheduled to continue through Saturday.
