NEW ORLEANS - One day after its first major scrimmage of the preseason, Tulane returned to campus for a light single-practice session Sunday afternoon. The hour and a half workout consisted of special teams and conditioning work.
With a day to evaluate Saturday's scrimmage, head coach Chris Scelfo had positive things to say about the Green Wave receivers and offensive line on offense and the linebackers and secondary on defense.
"Our receivers played really well, except for (junior) Adrian Burnette. Adrian's a good receiver, he just dropped too many balls Saturday. But the receivers and offensive line both played well Saturday.
"Defensively, our linebackers and secondary personnel were active and made some things happen. But we're still looking for someone to step up defensively and become a leader for us. Hopefully that will happen in the next two weeks."
Tulane begins its second week of two-a-day practices Monday on campus. Last week's workouts were at St. Paul's School in Covington.
The Green Wave opens the 1999 season against Southern Miss on Labor Day, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.
