MONTEREY, Calif. - In its first tournament of the spring season, Tulane took fifth place at the Spartan Invitational with a three round total, 930. The Green Wave finished with two players in the top-15.
Junior Pam Buff put together three consistent rounds of 75, 77, and 76, totaling 228 to finish in a tie for ninth place. This marked the 16th time she has finished in the top-10 in a tournament in her collegiate career. She was second best on the par-3's and par-5's, playing 1-under on those holes for the tourney. She tallied seven birdies over the three day event.
Senior Meghan Bolger put together a three round total 230 to tie for 15th place, marking her third straight event at 232 or below. Bolger also totaled 34 pars and was seventh best overall on the par-4 holes.
Senior Catalina Lara (78-80-80=238) finished tied for 34th place. Sophomore Marcela Gonzalez (80-76-84=243) wound up tied for 39th, and freshman Kathy Schafer (79-76-86=241) tied for 42nd place, rounding out the scoring for Tulane. Only the top four scores each round count toward the team scoring.
Tulane, as a whole, was third best on the par-3's, sixth best on the par-4's and fifth best on the par-5's. The team tallied 23 birdies and 144 pars during the 14 team, 54-hole event.
The golf tournament was mired by bad weather since Saturday, with played being delayed or halted two of the three days.
The Tulane Women's Golf team will next play March 13 & 14, 2000 at Lakewood Country Club at the 2000 Green Wave Classic. The 54-hole event is open to the public.
