Kiawah Island, S.C. - Sophomore Carolin Landmann and the Tulane University women's golf team closed out the 2001 fall schedule on a high note as Landmann tied for the individual championship and the Green Wave finished third at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate, hosted by the College of Charleston at Kiawah Island Oak Point Tuesday afternoon.
Landmann, who posted a four-over par 76 in round one and back-to-back 72s to finish with a plus-four 220, tied Cindy Pasechnik of Louisville for the individual crown. As a team, Tulane was one of the most consistent teams in the 16-squad tournament, finishing just six strokes back for a plus-51 915 (304-305-306).
The win was the first tournament title of Landmann's career as she set a personal low for a three-round tournament. Landmann's previous low was a 227 set last fall at the Lady Paladin Invitational and tied twice during the 2001 fall season.
Other scorers for the Green Wave were freshman Lindsay Hulwick, junior Kathy Schafer, freshman Alexis Wooster and senior Marcela Gonzalez.
Hulwick improved with every round of the tourney, shooting a 79 in round one before firing a 77 in round two and a 73 in round three to finish with a 229 and tie for 12th overall.
Schafer finished tied for 17th with a 223 (75-75-83) and Wooster was four strokes behind, tying for 38th with a 237 (74-82-81). Gonzalez rounded out the Green Wave scoring, finishing tied for 55th with a 242 (81-81-80).
Louisville won the team championship, finishing with a 45-over par 909 (296-308-305), and Campbell was three strokes back with a 912 (309-308-295) to finish second. Tulane finished second among six Conference USA teams competing in the tournament, two strokes better than fourth-placed Memphis and nine strokes ahead of fifth-placed South Florida.
The Green Wave returns to action in the spring semester when they host the 2002 Green Wave Women's Golf Classic at Lakewood Country Club on March 4-5.
