
Women's Tennis Falls to Florida State

NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Florida State captured wins in two doubles matches en route to a 4-3 win over the Tulane women's tennis team at the Goldring Tennis Stadium on Monday.
Florida State, ranked 30th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles before splitting three singles matches with Tulane. The Green Wave were ranked 49th in the latest ITA poll.
Tulane actually posted the first win of the day, as Nancu Kockott and Lucy Wood teamed to give the Green Wave an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Florida State's Jessica Balbuena and Christina Denny. However, FSU claimed the opening doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Seminole duo of Alida Gallovits and Nanette Duxin posted an 8-4 win over Tulane's Joyce Bergman and Julie Morris at the No. 1 spot, while Marina Raic and Samantha Schoeffel were 8-3 winners over Tulane's Anna Monhartova and Maiko Cook at the No. 3 doubles position.
The teams split six singles matches, with Florida State claming a pair of three-set wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. Monhartova dropped a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 decision to Gallovits at the No. 1 spot, while Bergman lost a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 match to Denny at the No. 2 position. The Green Wave bounced back to pick up a win at No. 3 singles, when Morris turned in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 result over Balbuena. Florida State added a win at No. 4 singles, as Duxin posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tulane's Anneli Axsater. Tulane would post victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but Florida State held on for the 4-3 win. Kockott was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Raic at the No. 5 spot, while Cook turned in a 6-4, 7-6 win over Christy Travis at the No. 6 position.
Tulane returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 17, as the Green Wave play host to South Alabama at the Goldring Tennis Stadium.
