BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Tulane women's golf team is in fifth place, with a team score of 314, after the first round of play in the 2001 Conference USA Championship at the Inverness Country Club on Friday.
South Florida is currently in the lead with a team score of 299. The Louisville Cardinals are in second, with a 305, and Southern Miss rounds out the top-three with a team total of 310.
Louisville's Katherine Mowat and South Florida's Jessica Hayes share the individual lead. Both players shot a 73 on the day.
The Green Wave has three players in the top-20 after the first round of play. Leading Tulane is Carolin Landman, who is currently tied for eighth place with a four-over-par first round performance. Senior Bonnie Hanlin follows in a tie for 13th. She posted a one round total of 78. Mary Jan Fernandez recorded a 79 in round one and is in a tie for 18th. Marcela Gonzalez is in a tie for 22nd and Kathy Schafer is in 35th.
The second round of play begins at noon on Saturday, April 21.
