Women's Golf Finishes Eighth At Mason Rudolph Championships

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Junior Kathy Schafer (Bogata, Columbia) shot a nine-over-par 225 to lead the Tulane University women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt University Tuesday afternoon at Legends Country Club.
Schafer shot a three-over-par 76 in the third round to finish tied for 22nd in the 14-team tournament. As a team, the Green Wave shot a 310 in the final round to finish with at 918 (+54), and fell one stroke shy of in-state rival LSU which finished seventh with a 917.
Following Schafer for the Green Wave were sophomore Carolin Landmann (Dreicich, Germany), freshman Alexis Wooster (Winnetka, Ill.), senior Marcela Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Lindsay Hulwick (Littleton, Colo.). Landmann finished two strokes behind Shafer with a plus-11 227, including a personal best 74 in the final round, which placed tied for 27th. Wooster finished tied for 42nd with an 18-over 234, followed by Gonzalez with a plus-20 236 (tied for 51st). Hulwick finished with a score of 248.
Ohio State captured the team title with a three-under par 861, including a tournament-best 278 during the final day of competition. The Buckeyes finished 16 strokes ahead of runner up Vanderbilt and 26 strokes ahead of Furman which finished third.
Furman's Jennifer Perri earned the individual championship with a six-under par 210, followed by Vanderbilt's Nicki Cutler with a minus-three 213, and a trio of Ohio State players.
The Green Wave golf team returns to action on Oct. 5 when the team travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to participate in the Franklin Street/Tar Heel Invitational.
