
Tulane Places Four on All-Louisiana Football Team

NEW ORLEANS - Four Tulane players, including record-setting sophomore running back Mewelde Moore and Lou Groza award winner Seth Marler, were selected to the All-Louisiana College Football team announced Sunday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. The team is comprised of players from 12 universities and colleges in the state and selected by a panel of LSWA media members from throughout Louisiana.
In addition to Moore and Marler, senior offensive lineman Torie Taulli, a first team All-Conference USA choice at center, and senior punter Casey Roussel, who averaged 43.2 yards on 64 kicks, were first team All-Louisiana choices. Moore, a native of Baton Rouge, La., also earned first team All-C-USA honors after rushing for a school-record 1,421 yards and leading Tulane in receiving with 65 catches for 756 yards. Lilburn, Ga. junior Marler made 15-of-16 field goal attempts, including seven-of-seven from 40 yards or more, on his way to first team All-America honors and the award for the nation's top placekicker.
Green Wave players Roydell Williams and Adrian Mitchell were second team All-Louisiana selections for 2001. Williams, a sophomore from LaPlace, La., led Tulane in receiving yards with 886 and was a second team all-conference selection. He caught a team-leading 11 touchdown passes on the year. Mitchell, Tulane's junior free safety from Alexandria, La., recorded the most tackles by a Wave player in 17 seasons with 138 total stops, ranking him 21st in the nation in tackles per game.
Tulane seniors Patrick Ramsey (QB) and offensive tackle Corey Sewell were named honorable mention All-Louisiana for 2001. Ramsey finished his Green Wave career as the owner of 30 school passing and total offense records while Sewell started every game of his collegiate career, a string of 46 straight games.
Players from Louisiana bowl teams LSU and Louisiana Tech dominated the 2001 All-Louisiana squad and picked up the awards for Offensive Player of the Year (Josh Reed, LSU), Defensive Player of the Year (Trev Faulk, LSU), Freshman of the Year (Michael Clayton, LSU), Coach of the Year (Nick Saban, LSU) and Newcomer of the Year (Joe Smith, Louisiana Tech).
Tulane opens spring drills for the 2002 season on Saturday, March 2.
