KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Green Wave fired a 305 in the first round and finished the first 27 holes with a 447 as the Tulane Women's golf team finished second after day one at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston at the Par 72, 5,873-yard Oak Park Golf Course Monday.
Junior Carolin Landmann, who earlier in the day was named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Month, led the Green Wave charge with a 110 to finish the first day tied for seventh and lead three Green Wave players in the Top 15. Tulane is just seven strokes off the lead as Kansas State went into the clubhouse with 440.
Sophomore Alexis Wooster finished the day one stroke back of Landmann with a 111, which was tied for ninth, and rookie Liliana Alvarez was one stroke behind Wooster to complete the day teid for 11th. Sophomore Lindsay Hulwick was next for the Green Wave with a 114 (T21st) and senior Kathy Schafer rounded out the Tulane squad with a 118 (T35th).
Kentucky's Rachel Lester leads the individual race with a 104, including a 69 in the first round, while Kansas State's Christine Boucher is next with a 105 that includes a tournament low 67 in round one.
In the team standings, Tulane holds a two-stroke lead over third-place Oklahoma and a six-stroke advantage on Coastal Carolina, which finished the day fourth.
Tulane and the 17-team field will conclude the tournament with the final 27 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 7 p.m.
