New Orleans - Fourteen Green Wave student-athletes, including six football players and two-sport standout Byron Parker, earned their undergraduate degrees from Tulane in December in fields ranging from business to media arts to sociology.
The list was topped by 2003 senior quarterback J.P. Losman, who earned his bachelor's degree in classical studies and is now projected as a top draft pick in the upcoming NFL selection. Losman threw for more than 3,000 yards and 33 touchdown passes during his senior season.
Byron Parker, who lettered in both football and basketball for Tulane during his career, became the fifth member of the 2002-03 basketball class to graduate after picking up his bachelor's degree in media arts while the other football grads include his fellow 2003 football seniors defensive tackle Terrence Tarver, a double major in finance and legal studies and Chino Fontenette, who picked up his degree in media arts.
The football grads also include former student-athletes Brent Brothers and Tim Pinter, finance and legal studies majors whose careers were cut short by injury, and 2002 senior Marlon Tickles, a double major in marketing and management.
The Tulane baseball and men's tennis team each had a pair of former players earn degrees in December. Baseball 2003 seniors Jon Kaplan and James Burgess were graduates in sociology and organizational information and technology, respectively while tennis' Jorge Lievano and Mattias Westerberg earned degrees from the A.B. Freeman School of Business in finance. Westerberg had a double major in marketing.
