Aagaard Leads Tulane to Victory at UNO Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Philip Aagaard led five Green Wave men in the top 11 finishers as Tulane captured the title at the UNO Invitational on Saturday morning at Levee Oaks Park. The junior also won the title at the 2001 UNO Invitational.
Tulane's women, finished in fourth place in the six-team field as a split squad (half of the team competed on Friday at Notre Dame).
Aagaard covered the three-mile course in 15:26.46 to lead the three-team field. His toughest competition came from sophomore teammate Kevin Martes, who posted a time of 15:34.27 to take second place.
Sophomores Tyler Chapman, Mike Moore and Dave Posnick rounded out the scorers for the Wave. Chapman finished in sixth place, while Moore and Posnick were eighth and 11th, respectively.
On the women's side, Tulane was led by freshman Ashley Porter, who made her collegiate debut by finishing 14th with a time of 19:56.78 on the three-mile course. Senior Sarah Bumby was second for the Wave, posting a time of 20:12.81 to take 17th place, while freshman Savannah Moon was just behind her in 19th at 20:32.11.
Another pair of freshman rounded out the scorers for Tulane as Traci Singer finished 34th and Jill Shriver was 38th.
The Tulane men tallied 23 points to defeat UNO (34 points) and Nicholls State (75 points). The women's race had six teams in action as Southern Miss won with 25 points, followed by UNO (49 points), Nicholls State (83) and the Green Wave (116). Xavier (121) and Spring Hill (140) rounded out the field.
The Green Wave cross country teams return to action next Monday, Oct. 11, running at the Auburn Invitational.
