TULSA, Okla. - - The Tulane women's tennis team swept doubles then added five wins in singles en route to a 6-1 win over Tulsa at the Tulsa Tennis Courts on Sunday.
Tulane won its fifth straight match to improve to 14-1 overall. The Green Wave, ranked 17th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is now 9-1 against ranked foes. Tulsa, ranked 51st by the ITA, is now 9-5 overall.
The Green Wave took the opening point of the match with wins at all three doubles positions. The Tulane tandem of Nancy Kockott and Julie Smekodub were 8-5 winners over the 42nd-ranked team of Muscolino and Somers on court one, while Maria Ivanov and Jenny Kuhn added a victory on court two. Darya Ivanov and Ana Saaibi posted a win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Tulane got wins on courts one, two, four, five and six to claim the match. Maria Ivanov posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tulsa's 61st-ranked Daniela Muscolino at the No. 1 spot, while Jenny Kuhn added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Donata Majauskaite on court two.
Darya Ivanov, ranked 65th in singles by the ITA, was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Lisette Pereira at the No. 4 spot. Nancy Kockott cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Santie Delport on court five, while Ana Saaibi picked up a win on court six with her 7-6, 6-0 triumph over Timberly Greenly.
