BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior Alexis Wooster fired a one-over par 73 and freshman Mary Ellen Jacobs was plus two with a 74 as the Tulane University women's golf team finished second at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic Sunday afternoon at the par 72, 6,265-yard University Club.
Tulane (308-296-302=906) entered the day as the tournament leader, and had the best score among the top-team pairing that included host LSU and Ole Miss, but North Carolina (306-305-292=903) shot a tourney-best 292 in the final round to win the event with a three-stroke lead over the Green Wave.
Jacobs was Tulane's top individual overall scorer, finishing tied for sixth with a nine-over par 215 (78-73-74), and junior Lindsay Hulwick (74-76-76=216) was one stroke behind to finish tied for 10th. Wooster, meanwhile, finished two strokes off Jacobs' pace to rank tied for 12th with a 227 (78-76-73).
Senior Carolin Landman was next for Tulane with a 236 (78-79-79) to finish tied for 30th, and sophomore Liliana Alvarez - who missed the first round of the tournament while wrapping up her first Mexican Amateur Championship on Friday - shot an 81 in round three.
Participating as individuals, sophomore Jessica Issler was tied for 28th with an 18-over par 234 (80-75-79) and freshman Maggie Cuningham finished tied for 69th with a 248 (86-82-80).
North Carolina's Ashley Prange won the individual race with a one-under par 215 (73-71-71), winning the title by three strokes over Adrienne Gautreux of South Carolina (72-74-72=218).
The Green Wave return to action on April 2 when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to participate in the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament. The Bryan National will be the final tuneup for Tulane before the C-USA Championship, which is slated for April 19-21 in Fort Worth, Texas.
