
Women's Tennis Advances To C-USA Tournament Semifinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The Tulane women's tennis team cruised to its eighth shutout of the season, posting a 5-0 win over Charlotte in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament at Louisville's Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Friday.
The Green Wave, ranked 15th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, won its 13th straight match to improve to 22-1 overall. Tulane is the tournament's top seed and defending champion and will make its eighth consecutive appearance in the C-USA Tournament semifinals. Charlotte, the 7th seed, falls to 13-7 overall with the loss.
Tulane took control of the match early by claiming the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 wins. The Wave's 21st-ranked team of Nancy Kockott and Dorottya Magas posted an 8-4 result over the 49er tandem of Freidman and Robey at the No. 2 spot. Maria Ivanov and Jenny Kuhn were 8-4 winners over the Charlotte pairing of Bullins and Piacente on court three.
In singles play, Tulane lost just six games in winning four matches. Maria Ivanov, ranked 93rd in singles by the ITA, was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Charlotte's Laura Swain at the No. 1 spot, while reigning C-USA Player of the Year Jenny Kuhn (ranked 107th) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ofra Friedman at the No. 2 spot. Darya Ivanov, ranked 89th, and Dorottya Magas added identical 6-1, 6-0 victories on courts four and five respectively.
Vying for its second straight C-USA Tournament title and third in the last four years, Tulane advances to the semifinals and will face either No. 3 Houston or No. 6 seed Marquette on Saturday
