NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Women's basketball standout Kelly Nadeau was selected as the C.J. Lenz Award winner, while football player Brandt Quick was given the Chris Ehren Award as the Tulane Greenbackers had their annual awards night on May 8.
The Lenz Award is named after former Greenbacker C.J. Lenx, who was one of the first boosters to recognize the importance of women's athletics at Tulane and actively promoted attendance and interest in the Green Wave's women's programs. The award is presented to the Tulane female athlete who best exemplifies Lenz's ideals of love of life, love of Tulane and love of teammates.
Nadeau, a native of Hudson, N.H., recently completed her Green Wave basketball career and is ranked among the Tulane all-time leaders in assists, steals, three-pointers made, three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage. She joins such past Lenz Award winners as Keisha Johnson, Rodnelle Hadley, Lacey Vicknair-Momic and Britt Themann.
The Ehren Award is given annually to the "most courageous" Green Wave athlete. Named after the late Chris Ehren, a former Greenbacker who courageously fought cancer, it recognizes an athlete who has overcome adversity to excell.
Quick, a native of Mandeville, La, finished his two-year football career after having transfered to Tulane from Kansas State. Originally one of the top prep fullbacks in the state of Louisiana, Quick moved to linebacker in 2002 and finished each season among the Wave's leaders in tackles. Former Ehren Award winners include Kim Lewis, JaJuan Dawson, Barth Melius and Derrick Joseph.
