Green Wave to Host Tulane Invitational Cross Country Meet

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University will host the 2004 Tulane Invitational Cross Country Meet at Gretna Park in Gretna, La., on Friday afternoon. Loyola, LSU, Southeastern Louisiana, UNO, Arkansas State, Georgia College, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Nicholls State will all join the Green Wave in the event. Friday's women's race will cover a three-mile course and will start at 4:45 p.m., while the four-mile men's race will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. (after the women's contest). The invitational will mark the start of Tulane head coach Heather Van Norman's third season directing the Green Wave men's and women's programs. Last year, the Tulane women won five meets while the men took four championships. "We are really excited about the entire season and it starts Friday," Van Norman said. "We have worked so hard and invested so much time in building this team. Everybody on the team will be running and it is the start of what could be a great year. I am excited to see how everyone responds." The Wave women have won the Tulane Invitational for three straight years, while the men have captured two of the last three titles. In last year's race, Tulane's women took the top three spots led by the-graduated Eva Lustigova. Junior Lisa Green was third overall. For the men, senior Philip Aagaard finished third overall and was the top finisher for the Wave. Friday's race will also be the debut of a much-anticipated freshman class for the women's team. Three incoming recruits, Rachel Bryan from California, Kerriann Langley from New Orleans and Aubrey Phillips from Baton Rouge, are expected to be major contributors for the team. Directions to Friday's race are as follows: Take I-10 into New Orleans, exit at US 90 West heading for the Westbank. Stay on the elevated Westbank Expressway (US 90) and cross the bridge. Exit at Lafayette Street. Take a left on Lafayette and travel approximately 1 mile. (Lafayette Street becomes Belle Chasse Hwy.) Take a right on Gretna Blvd and travel about 1/4 of a mile and course will be on your left. Results will be available at www.TulaneGreenWave.com by approximately 8 p.m.
