WILMINGTON, N.C. - Tulane's Mary Ellen Jacobs fired a four-over par 76 to lead the Green Wave women's golf team at the fourth annual Landfall Tradition Collegiate Golf Tournament, held at the 6,070 yard, par-27 Country Club of Landfall Jack Nicklaus Course.
Jacobs, a junior from Godfrey, Ill., ended her day in a tie for ninth overall, six strokes behind Conference USA foe Leisl Hasbrouck of Tulsa.
Freshman Kasi Lee carded a 77 during her first-ever round and the Landfall, and is tied for 15th in the standings. Jessica Issler, a native of Wolfsburg, Germany, turned in a nine-over par 81 to tie for 34th while Liliana Alvarez's 82 ranks 39th and Alison Walshe's 84 places her in a tie for 47th.
Overnight rains and cool temperatures on the course cooled off the majority of the field except for Hasbrouck, who entered the clubhouse as the only player to shoot under par on the day with a two-under 70 in round one. Vriginia's Leah Wigger trails Hasbrouck in the standings by two, carding an even-par 72. Mary Goins of Wake Forest sits in third-place at one-over while three players recorded four-over par 74s to tie for fourth.
As a team, Tulane's total of 316 matches the sums of both Michigan and former C-USA rival USF as all three schools are tied for fifth. Purdue leads the field after an opening round score 302, two strokes ahead of Virginia (304). Wake Forest sits six strokes back (308) in third while Tulsa holds fourth-place with a first-day total of 309.
Tulane and the rest of the 12-team field at the Landfall Tradition return to action at 8:12 a.m. (CST) Saturday morning for the tournament's second round. The tournament concludes with the final round on Sunday in Wilmington.
