
Women's Golf Comes Up Short Against Florida

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Tulane University senior Liliana Alvarez won her fourth match of the weekend but the Green Wave women's golf team was edged by Florida, 3-2, in the consolation final of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.
The Green Wave, which finished the tournament with a 2-2 mark, took 10th-place overall. Second-seeded Purdue won the title with a 4-1 win over Arizona State.
Alvarez, a native of Durango, Mexico, went undefeated through the three-day tournament, defeating the Gators' Whitney Myers, 5 and 4. Senior classmate Jessica Issler recorded the other point of the afternoon for the Wave, winning her contest over Ornella Jouven, 5 and 3.
Junior Alison Walshe was narrowly defeated by Mallory Blackwelder, 1-up while Mary Ellen Jacobs and Kasi Lee feel in their matches, 5 and 4 and 4 and 3, respectively.
The Hooters Match Play Championship closed out the fall season for the Green Wave, who will not return to competition until the spring.
