Football Inks Anthony Scelfo

Jesuit High School quarterback Anthony Scelfo (5-10, 190) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for the Tulane Green Wave, Head Coach Chris Scelfo announced Friday. The younger Scelfo becomes the 20th high school senior, and the only quarterback, to ink with the Green Wave this year.
"We needed a quarterback in this class and I believe we got one of the best ones in the state of Louisiana," Chris Scelfo said. "He was 20-4 as a starter in one of the toughest leagues in the state. He brings a knowledge of the system, and he knows what it takes to compete at this level."
Anthony Scelfo, who led Jesuit to a 20-4 record in two seasons as the Blue Jays' starting quarterback, was an honorable mention 5A All-State player, a first team all-district 10-5A choice, and the Offensive MVP of the Clarion Herald Elite Catholic schools team in 2004. In two seasons as the starter, he completed 176-of-314 passes with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while rushing for 859 yards and 11 scores on 162 carries, a 5.3-yard average. Jesuit won the 2004 10-5A district title and went on to an undefeated regular season.
"I want to make it clear that there was never any question that everyone here at Tulane wanted Anthony to be a part of our program," said Rick Dickson. "We regret that there was some confusion on Wednesday about how best to do that. Obviously this is the outcome we were looking for."
Anthony Scelfo is the nephew of Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo and the son of Green Wave offensive coordinator Frank Scelfo. He becomes the sixth player from Louisiana to sign with Tulane this year.
