NEW ORLEANS-Troy Kropog, a three-year letterwinner and three-year starter on the offensive line for Tulane, has been invited to participate in the 60th Annual Senior Bowl, taking place on Saturday, January 24, 2009 in Mobile, Alabama, head football coach Bob Toledo announced today. Kropog, an offensive tackle, has started 34 of his 40 career games for the Green Wave. He was also named honorable mention All-Conference USA in 2007.
Kropog becomes the 43rd Tulane player to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl since its inception in 1950, and the eighth since 2000. An elite list of Tulane alumni who had earned a spot on a Senior Bowl roster, Kropog joins Eddie Price and Bill Svoboda in 1950, Joe Ernst in 1951, Max McGee in 1954, Bobby Duhon in 1968, Warren Bankston in 1969, David Abercrombie in 1971, Michael Pierce in 1990, Jerald Sowell in 1997, Mewelde Moore in 2004, Roydell Williams in 2005 and most recently Chicago Bears standout Matt Forté in 2007. Forté also earned MVP honors for his Senior Bowl performance, becoming the first Tulane player to earn individual honors from the Senior Bowl since quarterback Patrick Ramsey was named South Offensive MVP in 2002. Ramsey was later drafted in the first round by the Washington Redskins and is currently a member of the Denver Broncos organization.
Of Tulane 43 previous Senior Bowl participants, 35 have been drafted by NFL teams and 32 have gone on to play professional football.
"First of all it's an honor and it's a privilege to be invited to the Senior Bowl. They only take the very best players in the country and it's hard to get invited to that game," Toledo said. "They have obviously seen something in him that they really like and it will be a good opportunity for him to show what he can do against the best players in the country."
The Senior Bowl is a week-long pre-NFL draft event, culminating in a bowl game, played in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. With teams made up of premier collegiate seniors and top NFL draft prospects, the North and South squads are coached entirely by NFL staffs. Also part of the week's events are practices, which are attended by over 800 general managers, head coaches, assistant coaches, scouts and other front office personnel from the 32 National Football League teams.
The game will be nationally-televised by the NFL network. Kick-off is set for 6:00pm.
