NEW ORLEANS - Tulane cross country runner Aubrey Phillips was named to the 2008 Louisiana Sports Writers' Association All-Louisiana Team. The senior from Baton Rouge, La. was one of the Green Wave's top two finishers in each meet this season.
Phillips was the second runner from a Louisiana school across the line at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship, turning in a time of 22:36 on Nov. 15, placing 44th in the 6K event. Among runners from Louisiana schools, Phillips finished only behind Everlyn Matonyei, who was named the LSWA Runner of the Year. Matonyei inherits the mantel of Runner of the Year from Phillips, who earned the honor last season.
Phillips finished sixth in the LSU Tiger Festival on Sept. 27, with a 22:35 time in the 6K event, and posted her best time of the season in the 5K Auburn Invitational, traversing the course in 17:54. She came in 41st in the Conference USA Championships, and posted an 18th place finish at the Brooks Memphis Twilight.
Joining Phillips and Matonyei on the LWSA All-Louisiana Women's Cross Country Team were Madeline Falcone of Loyola, Ebony Harding of Xavier, Grambling's Grace Korir, Paula Parker of Louisiana-Lafayette, and Brittany Wilkens of Centenary. Falcone earned Newcomer of the Year honors, while Wilkens shared Freshman of the Year accolades with Anna D'Souza of Xavier. Xavier's Joseph Moses was named Coach of the Year.
