The Alamo Invitational-Final Results
NEW ORLEANS - One day after 13th-ranked Tulane and several teams managed to finish with subpar scores during the second round of The Alamo Invitational, the Briggs Ranch Golf Course rose up and refused to go quietly through Tuesday's final round as all but one of the 14 teams left the course with double digit, including the Green Wave with a combined 15-over 303 total and dropped from second to a fifth place finish in San Antonio, Texas.
Today's scores varied from 10- to 35-over par between the teams and Notre Dame as the lone school to finish in single digits with a 7-over 295 effort.
Lost in today's inflated scores was the performance of junior Meghan Chapman who polished off her best outing in a Green Wave uniform with a 1-over 73 for the team's lowest total during the third round. Although she finished with a 54-hole total of 8-over 224 for 33rd place, Chapman posted back-to-back rounds of 1-over par and showed great improvement in just her second tournament of the fall campaign.
Senior Linn Gustafsson recorded her best finish of the fall with a 4-over 220 total, which was good enough for ninth place. Gustafsson matched her opening round score with a 3-over 75 during today's final round.
Junior Ashley McKenney got off to a rough start with six bogeys on her first nine holes, but rebounded on the back nine with an even par round. She finished with a 6-over 78 on the day and concluded the event with a 5-over 221 total and a 12th place finish, which marked her best finish of the fall.
Sophomore Maribel Lopez Porras was another Green Wave player that stumbled out of the gates to open her round this morning. Porras was forced to settle for two bogeys and a double bogey on three of her first four holes. She recovered with a birdie on the fifth hole, but was forced to settle for a pair of bogeys on the back nine and went to the clubhouse with a 5-over 77 for a three-round of 6-over 222 total and a 13th place finish.
Junior Samantha Troyanovich couldn't capitalize on her even par performance during Monday's second round. Troyanovich carded a 10-over 82 today and finished in 38th place with a 14-over 230.
The Green Wave concludes its fall campaign and will spend the next few months working during the offseason. Tulane will make its spring debut at the UCF Challenge, Feb. 13-15, 2011, at the Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
