Coady, Whitrock Named All-Louisiana XC

NEW ORLEANS - The two leading runners for the Tulane women's Cross Country team were both honored by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association over the weekend. Rebecca Coady and Julia Whitrock each earned spots on the All-Louisiana Cross Country squads, with Coady finishing runner-up for the Louisiana Runner of the Year award.
The duo paced the Green Wave all season, with Coady finishing as the team's top runner in four of the team's seven meets and Whitrock grabbing a pair of top finishes for the Olive and Blue. Each student-athlete posted career-best times at the 5K and 6K distance, with Coady owning the teams fastest 5K time and Whitrock grabbing the top 6K time. The two selections in 2010 mark the first time since 2007 that Tulane has had multiple student-athletes named to the All-Louisiana squad.
In her senior season, Coady was a steady hand in the Green Wave lineup, posting four top-25 finishes in six races to earn her second career selection to the All-Louisiana Cross Country squad. She notched the teams fastest 5K time at the Conference USA Championships, crossing the finish line in 17:45.00, while placing 24th overall. A native of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Coady also set her personal best at the 6K distance early on in the 2010 season with a time of 21:29.09 at the LSU Invitational. Coady also earned All-Louisiana honors during her freshman cross country season in 2007.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., Whitrock collected the team's only individual crown of the year with a first place finish at the LSU Invitational. In that race, Whitrock posted a time of 20:53.40 on the 6K course, marking the best 6K time by a Green Wave runner in 2010. The redshirt-junior posted three top-ten finishes to start the season, grabbing a sixth place showing at the Georgia Invitational and placing tenth at the Crimson Classic before winning at LSU. Her time of 17:52.30 at the Crimson Classic set a new personal record at the 5K distance.
