NEW ORLEANS - Tulane junior golfer Linn Gustafsson has been named a 2009-10 All-America Scholar recipient by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Gustafsson is a first time member on the NGCA All-America Scholar team and the first Tulane player to receive the prestigious award since Lindsay Hulwick in 2005, and the sixth Green Wave player overall.
A sociology major and native of Stockholm, Sweden, Gustafsson was one of 20 Conference USA selections and the lone Tulane student-athlete. The award requires each recipient to achieve a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and to have competed in at least 50 percent of the school's scheduled rounds during the season.
Gustafsson adds another academic honor to her resume as she was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll as well as the Tulane 3.0 Club the past two seasons. As a sophomore, she was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team.
During the 2009 season, Gustafsson completed eight rounds of par or better and finished third for the Green Wave in scoring average (75.90). Her season best came at the Windy City Collegiate where she turned in a third place finish. The junior also added an eighth-place finish at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate and finished in 14th place at the 2010 Conference USA Championships. Gustafsson was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week on Oct. 7th, 2009. She was named to the All-Conference USA and All-Louisiana First Team for the second straight season.
She helped the Wave win three tournaments in 2009: the Kinderlou Classic, the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate, and the Conference USA Championship. Tulane finished sixth at the NCAA East Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships where the team recorded an 18th place finish.
For her career, Gustafsson has played 95 rounds in 33 tournaments and has 19 top-20 finishes with a career average of 75.57 (7180 strokes). She was also a five year member of the Swedish National team and helped the team to a two time runner-up and one time European Champions.
The National Golf Coaches Association was founded in 1983 and is a non-profit organization representing women's golf coaches.
