Tulane Veterans Report to Campus on Eve of First Practice of 2010 Fall Camp

New Orleans - The 2010 Tulane football team is now assembled and ready to begin fall camp as 66 veteran players reported to the James W. Wilson Jr., Center today and the team met for the first time as a collective group late this afternoon. The Green Wave will open fall camp this Wednesday at 9:20 a.m. at the Westfeldt Practice Facility on the Tulane campus. Tulane's practices are open to the public.
"We are very anxious to get started tomorrow and find out a lot about our football team," Tulane head football coach Bob Toledo said. "We had 95 percent of our team here for the summer and I'm looking forward to seeing how in shape we are and the overall gains we made over the summer in the weight room. I am excited about the upcoming season. I hope our fans will come out to our practices and watch us get better every day of preseason camp."
Today, 59 scholarship players and seven returning walk-ons joined Tulane's 31 newcomers and the group will have another team meeting regarding rules and regulations tonight after summer school classes. Although everyone has reported to campus for fall camp, the majority of the team has been here the entire summer taking classes and working out both individually and in 7-on-7 drills.
"I'm excited for the upcoming season," Tulane senior cornerback Phillip Davis said. "We worked hard over the summer, and I'm excited for it to start. Now it all begins."
The Green Wave returns 46 letterwinners, including 12 starters (7 offense; 4 defense; 1 special teams), and will be led by an 18-member senior class in 2010. The Green Wave coaching staff remains intact on the offensive side of the ball, but will feature two new position coaches on defense in linebackers coach Doug Colman and secondary/safeties coach Tom Hayes.
Tulane will practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9:20 a.m. each day. Media Day for the 2010 squad will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7 beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by an afternoon practice at 3:20 p.m. The Green Wave hosts Southeastern Louisiana in the 2010 season opener on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. inside the Louisiana Superdome.
