Bowling Gets Three Victories in First Tournament

2011 Fall Baker Invite Results 
READING, Pa. - Tulane's first-year bowling program placed eighth in the team matches and earned a 10th-place finish in the baker format at the first tournament of the season this past weekend at the Berks Lanes hosted by Kutztown University.
The Green Wave (3-9) earned a pair of victories in Saturday's baker format and then posted a victory in Sunday's team competition. Overall, Tulane's 3,682 pins on Saturday placed them 10th and the 3,768 pins on Sunday placed them eighth.
"After a slow start to both days the ladies battled throughout the days and never gave up," Tulane head coach Hayley Beavis said. "The lane conditions were challenging and the ladies had trouble repeating shots as well as picking up spares. This is something that will come with experience over time."
Saturday's format was five, 4-game baker matches, followed by one 4-game baker position round match. Sunday's format was five team matches.
Sarah Knapp rolled Tulane's best average during the weekend with a 168.0, while Caryn Wong bowled a 165.0 average, including the high game of 241.
"There will be continued hard work at practice this week in preparation for next weekend's matches in Florida," Beavis added. "I am proud of my ladies for their perseverance and they should be satisfied with their accomplishments of winning their first matches this weekend. It is definitely something to build on."
Joining host Kutztown in the tournament were Adelphi, Hampton, Cheyney, St. Peter's, Howard, Lincoln, Penn State University-Altoona, Salem International, Long Island, Coppin State, St. Francis - Pa, Pittsburgh-Greensburg and Medaille.
The Green Wave will travel to Ormond Beach, Fla., this Friday-Sunday for the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman University.
