NEW ORLEANS - It was a beautiful day for golf on Saturday, October 1 and the Tulane women's golf program lent a helping hand to the golf pros at the Lakewood Golf Course in New Orleans. The entire Green Wave roster spent some time on the driving range, in the bunkers and on the putting greens to help teach the local youth about the game they love.
"We were extremely honored and excited to be a part of the grand opening of the Short Course at Lakewood Golf Course this past Saturday," said Tulane head women's golf coach Andrew Pratt. "Jimmy Headrick, junior golf program director at Lakewood, has been such an ambassador for junior golf in the New Orleans area and has done an incredible job with all of those programs. So when we were asked to be involved, it was not even a question. The game of golf is such a great game and we are just so happy to be a part of giving back to such a great junior golf program and to the city of New Orleans."
The clinic drew over 50 boys and girls to the links at the Lakewood Golf Course and the Green Wave players and head coach Andrew Pratt all served as guest instructors. Meghan Chapman, Ines Lescudier, Ashley McKenney, Maribel Lopez Porras, Samantha Troyanovich and Stephanie Wagstaff all imparted their knowledge and passion of the game of golf during the event.
The Lakewood Golf Club has a nationally recognized year round junior golf program serving the youth of New Orleans. Lakewood Golf Club is committed to growing golf and developing golfers for a lifetime. Their main goal is to have fun and give the children an excellent learning atmosphere with an emphasis on family. The program is under the direction of Lakewood Golf Club's PGA Director of Golf, Brad Weaver, and is run by PGA Member Jimmy Headrick.
The Green Wave will take to the course this weekend (Oct. 7-9) in Chapel Hill, N.C. at the Tar Heel Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Finley Golf Course on the campus of the University of North Carolina and run Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
