ALTOONA, Pa. - Tulane's bowling team, competing without its top player, finished fifth over the weekend at the Red Flash Invitational and Jessica Cwik earned All-Tournament honors for her efforts.
The Green Wave (14-33) despite not winning a match on Friday and Saturday, took both matches in Sunday's bracket format to earn a fifth-place finish in the eight-team tournament. Tulane defeated Medaille, 4-3, in the first match to advance to the 5th and 6th-place match. The Green Wave upended PSU-Altoona, 4-3, to claim fifth-place.
Tulane fell to St. Francis (N.Y.) (664-629), New Jersey City (673-529), Penn State-Altoona (654-512), St. Francis (Pa.) (718-555) and Medaille (676-544) on Friday in the Baker format. The Green Wave then dropped team matches to Medaille (781-764), Ursuline (853-704), St. Francis (Pa.) (908-674) and New Jersey City (925-719) on Saturday.
Jessica Cwik knocked down 986 total pins on Saturday, the second most among individuals in the invitational. Her efforts earned her a spot on the five-member all-tournament team. Her game-high was a 218 in the final game of the afternoon against NJC.
Tulane will take almost two months off before traveling to Dover, Del., Feb. 10-12 for the Capitol Classic.
