NEW ORLEANS - You see them on the field and interviewed on ESPN but who are these student-athletes? Having the opportunity to get to know the athletes on a more personal level is a highlight of working in athletics. So we thought we'd give all of our fans the same opportunity. The Tulane Athletics Department introduces "The Day in the Life of a Student-Athlete: Summer Edition." One student-athlete, per day, for a week.
To begin the series, who better to start with but Junior Quarterback, Ryan Griffin. Ryan was really excited to have fans get to know him as the student and person instead of the athlete being interviewed by ESPN for two minutes after a game.
After waking up at 5:30a.m., Ryan headed to practice and it's easy to see how he has earned his nickname "California Cool". Even in the 95-degree heat and 94-percent humidity, Ryan stayed cool, offering advice and encouragement to his teammates, the freshmen in particular.
Ryan then grabbed lunch at one of his favorite restaurants: "Refuel," and discussed the differences between Southern California and the South and his goals for this season. Heading back to the Wilson Center after class, he passed the sand volleyball courts. If you're walking passed them, you might see him playing out there with a few teammates and some members of the women's volleyball team. Along with cooking, playing volleyball is one of his favorite hobbies.
