Dear Prospective student athletes, parents, and fans-
On behalf of the Tulane Athletic Department, I am excited to welcome the addition of our new sand volleyball program. This year will mark the first official year the NCAA will add sand volleyball to its list of emerging Division I sports. We are thrilled to be a part of this inaugural season. We are one of few schools who have added a sand volleyball program for the 2011 season. We are excited to get our program under way before many other schools. Hopefully, our early launch of the program will help us to get a leg up on the competition. We will use the extra experience of being one of the first programs as one of our greatest teachers.
Our main emphasis this first season will be to develop and polish the multi-dimensional skills needed to be successful in the outdoor game. During our first year of competition, the majority of our sand team will consist of players who compete on Tulane's indoor team. But we will have lofty goals and hope to establish ourselves early on as a top sand volleyball program. We will look to compete against the top schools right away and improve each day and match.
Although we appreciate athletes who have the ability to execute the indoor and outdoor game, we hope to hit the recruiting trail hard and bring in student-athletes who will specialize in sand. In recruiting, we will be looking for the top sand players in the country that also excel academically. Each year we will look to bring in multiple sand players and are open to emails and questionnaires (our questionnaire can be found online and gets emailed right to us). The sport is growing rapidly and I expect there to be a big pool of recruits looking to compete in this college sport.
I appreciate all of the support and interest our program is already receiving. I encourage you to log on to our website throughout the year and follow our progress. We are eager and excited to start this season, and already know it will be a great sport here at Tulane.
