Golfers Post 16th Place Finish at Mason Rudolph Fall Preview

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane senior Samantha Troyanovich completed one the best tournaments of her collegiate career today as she fired a 2-over 74 and posted a 22nd place finish among the top players in women's golf and the Green Wave combined for a 22-over 310 total for a 16th place finish during the final round of the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course in Franklin, Tenn.
Playing among 18 of the top 25 teams in the nation, the Green Wave wasn't able to mount the finish it had hoped, but Troyanovich's effort (75-73-74=222 ) was a bright spot for Tulane and was her best 54-hole performance since last year's Fall Preview when she carded a 5-over 221.
Senior Ashley McKenney posted her best round of the event with a 4-over 76 and finished with a 14-over 234 for 73rd place. Junior Maribel Lopez Porras finished with a 7-over 79 and posted a three-round total of 18-over 234 to tie McKenney.
Freshman Gemma Dryburgh was unable to finish on a strong note after notching a 7-over total through 36 holes, but a 9-over 81 during the final round torpedoed her efforts. She finished with a 16-over 232 for 66nd place.
Finally, senior Meghan Chapman went to the clubhouse with an 11-over 83 and posted a 28-over 244 for 87th place.
"We're starting to play better as a team but our efforts just haven't shown up in the results," Tulane head coach Andrew Pratt said. "Today, the greens were fast and the hole placements were tough and we had a hard time, but it was a great week for Samantha against a very high-caliber field. Ashley had a good finish today but we need more balance from our line-up.
"We made some progress this weekend and we'll continue to work hard and improve over the next couple weeks on the problems that are costing us shots."
UCLA claimed the team title for the third time in last five years. The Bruins were six strokes better than second place Alabama, while Arizona State and Virginia tied for third and North Carolina and Texas A&M each tied for fifth place
Duke's Lindy Duncan defeated Alabama's Jennifer Kirby on the first playoff hole (18) to claim individual honors. Both players completed the 54th-hole event with identical 4-under totals.
The Green Wave returns to action at the Tar Heel Invitational, Oct. 7-9, at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
