Fourth Annual Tulane 5K Set for April 28

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane University Director of Athletics Rick Dickson announced today that the 4th Annual Tulane Athletics 5K will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The 5K (3.1 miles) fun run/walk will take place throughout Tulane's beautiful uptown campus.
Green Wave coaches, staff and student-athletes will participate in the event, with the goal being to increase the Tulane Athletics Fund (TAF) donor base to a new record level. This year, Tulane Athletics has set a goal of 500 participants and sponsors for the 5K. In order to reach that goal, each and every student-athlete and coach must be sponsored by Green Wave supporters, family members, or friends.
"This event has continued to grow each year and proven to be a key membership drive for TAF," Dickson said. "This year, we are striving to reach 500 sponsors and participants of the 5K. We hope our supporters, both locally and across the country, as well as the greater New Orleans community will participate in this fun and worthy event as either a sponsor or a participant."
Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the Westfeldt Practice Facility with the race beginning at 8 a.m. The party will continue after the race with entertainment and free food and beverages for all participants. The Tulane Athletics 5K is open for anyone to register to run for $30. Kids below 12 are free. The more than 500 people who have participated in the 5K in 2009, 2010 and 2011 include Tulane faculty and staff, students, TAF donors, season ticket holders, alumni and friends from all over the country, as well as many of the area's runners and walkers.
On top of supporting a great cause, prizes will be awarded:
-- All registrants plus anyone who sponsors at $30 or more will receive a Tulane 5K shirt;
-- Sponsor or get sponsored by at least five people and you will receive a $25 gift certificate to the Green Wave Sports Shop;
-- Sponsor or get sponsored by at least 10 people and receive a $50 gift certificate to the Green Wave Sports Shop PLUS you and a guest will be invited to the Athletic Director's suite for a 2012 football game in the Superdome;
-- The individual who is sponsored by the most people (or sponsors others) will receive the above prizes PLUS an all-expense paid trip for two to a Tulane road football game during the 2012 season (date and opponent to-be-determined).
