
No. 61 Tulane Women's Tennis Tops Lamar, 5-1

New Orleans - The 61st-ranked Tulane women's team chalked up its 14th win of the season this afternoon with a decisive 5-1 win over Lamar in a neutral site contest at Louisiana-Lafayette's Heard Stadium in Lafayette, La.
Tulane not only improved to 14-5 overall this season, but also established a new single season mark for victories since the program was re-instated in 2008-09. The previous mark of 13 came during the 2009-10 campaign. Lamar, meanwhile, dropped to 6-8 on the year.
"Although Lamar is not having such a great season, i think they are a solid team who fights hard," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk. I am proud of the team for playing to win and team spirit."
The match was never in doubt for Tulane as the Green Wave rolled through singles with five straight wins. Junior Caroline Magnusson notched her Conference USA leading 27th singles victory of the season with her, 6-0, 6-1, win at No. 3 over Lamar's Carolina Maso.
Junior Caroline Thornton also found the win column following a, 6-1, 6-0, over Alicia Porte at No. 2, while sophomore Jenny Hois registered a victory at No. 4 with a, 6-1, 6-2, win over Natalia Mayagoitia.
Junior Hila Elster wrapped up the win for the Green Wave with her, 6-3, 6-1, win over Helene Czudek at No. 6. At the top spot, senior Mariam Kurdadze overcame Carolina Salas, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
TU's only loss came at the No. 5 spot where senior Lindsay Dvorak dropped a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0, decision to Alessandra Pennesi.
Tulane returns to action on Sunday, April 8 against Denver in the final home match of the regular season at 11 a.m.
