June 14, 2012
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane University's athletics department will host the second annual "Summer Camp" on Tuesday, June 19 from 6 -8 p.m. at the Hertz Center.
The event, free of charge, provides fans, friends and community members an opportunity to get an inside look at what it takes to be a Green Wave student-athlete. Go behind-the-scenes and hear from Tulane coaches, support staff and student-athletes as they tell you about their day-to-day regimen.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask them questions throughout the evening as Tulane coaches, support staff and student-athletes will serve as your personal tour guide.
Any children in sixth grade or below are welcome to join our student-athletes on the court during the event for sport-related activities. A waiver must be signed to participate and gym shoes are required. This event is closed to all 7th - 12th grade students as the NCAA defines them as "prospective student-athletes". The NCAA restricts on- and off-campus recruiting contacts with prospective student-athletes and/or their parents, relatives, or legal guardians, especially by representatives of an institution's athletics interests.
Each attendee will be divided into small groups and will tentatively follow the below schedule:
6:00 p.m. - Dinner and Team Meeting
6:30 p.m. - Watch Game Film
6:45 p.m. - Athletic Training & Strength and Conditioning
7:10 p.m. - Academic Session and Tutoring
7:25 p.m. - Equipment Room

TESTIMONIALS FROM LAST YEAR'S EVENT
Last year's boot camp gave me an understanding of what the student athlete/support staff/coaching staff actually go through. It explained to me that side of football that the fan experiences - is only a fraction of what it takes to play a football game. You experience the locker room, coaching and academics in a short period of time but are left an understanding of how much behind the scene work that takes. It totally changed the way I look at the game of football and gave me a much greater appreciation of the effort put forth by everyone. Added to that was a feeling of unity and togetherness with the entire Athletic Department.

The behinds the scenes view into the life of Tulane student-athletes demonstrated the massive commitment expected of the students as well as the extensive support the university provides to help them be successful on the field and in the classroom. The players and coaches were great hosts and welcomed us into their community. My son particularly enjoyed getting to see the basketball teams locker room and the great photo wall of significant events in Tulane athletics history.
