Bowlers Nab Seven Wins and Place Ninth at Crusader Classic

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Tulane's bowling team picked up seven wins over the weekend, including one over defending national champion and third-ranked Sam Houston State, and placed ninth in bracket play at the 14-team Crusader Classic hosted by Valparaiso University at the Inman Lanes.
The Green Wave (15-13) posted three wins on the opening day, Friday, in Baker play. Tulane opened the day with wins over Prairie View A&M, 844-819, and 18th-ranked Alabama State, 923-837. A close loss to host Valparaiso and a defeat by No. 6 Central Missouri followed, but the Green Wave fought back to earn a 946-901 win over SHSU. Top-ranked Nebraska handed Tulane a loss to close out the day.
Tulane earned a pair of wins in the team format on Saturday, including a 952-892 decision over No. 20 Monmouth and a 994-951 victory over Alma.
The Green Wave earned a No. 10 seed in Sunday's bracket play and dropped the opening Baker best-of-seven match to Valpo, 4-3. Tulane rebounded to win the final two matches of the day, 4-2, over Alabama State and 4-2 over Valpo to place ninth.
"Overall I thought we had a successful tournament," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "The field was outstanding and we were able to get some wins over some top ranked teams."
Freshman Michelle Ng led Tulane individually with a 193.83 and placed 13th out of 97 bowlers in the field. Sophomore Angela Falgoust was 33rd with an average of 180.71.
Falgoust rolled a team-high 234 in the second game on Saturday to help lead the Green Wave to the win over Alma.
Tulane will be right back in action this weekend when the Green Wave travel to Montgomery, Alabama, for the ASU Hornet Classic that gets underway on Friday morning.
