Saturday's game marked the seventh meeting between Tulane and Rutgers on the gridiron. With the loss, the Green Wave are now 2-5 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, and 2-2 in Piscataway, N.J.
Redshirt freshman RB Sherman Badie scampered 86 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The run was his second longest of his career (had a 90-yard TD run in the opening game at Tulsa). The touchdown is his third rushing score of the season.
Badie recorded 108 rushing yards on 12 carries for his second 100-plus game of his career and the third 100-plus yard rushing game by a Green Wave player this season (Badie-215 at Tulsa and Lazedrick Thompson-124 at Duke).
With his six-yard interception return in the third quarter, junior cornerback Lorenzo Doss moved into third place on the school's career list for interceptions with 13, and he now has 270 interception return yards, which ranks as the most in school history.
Lorenzo Doss ranks third among the FBS's active career leaders in interceptions and is second in career return yards.
The Green Wave defense had eight tackles for loss against Rutgers, marking the fifth time in as many games in 2014 to have at least four tackles for loss. The Wave have now tallied at least four tackles behind the line of scrimmage in each of the last 19 games dating back to the 2012 season finale. The last time Tulane had less than three tackles for loss was on Nov. 17, 2012, when the Green Wave had one sack against East Carolina.
Six Tulane players extended their double-digit scoring streaks on Saturday at Rutgers: junior SS Darion Monroe (30), junior CB Lorenzo Doss (19), senior FS Sam Scofield (18), junior OL Arturo Uzdavinis (18) and senior OL Sean Donnelly (16).
Tulane's game captains for Saturday's contest at Rutgers were junior OT Arturo Uzdavinis representing the offense, senior S Brandon LeBeau representing the defense and senior holder Jordy Joseph representing the special teams.
Sophomore RB Lazedrick Thompson carried the "18" flag to lead the Green Wave onto the field prior to the game.
