BATON ROUGE, La. - The Tulane swimming & diving team opened the 2015-16 season Friday night, falling 210-86 at LSU. The squad tallied six top-three finishes on the day, while six of the nine newcomers made their collegiate debuts.
"I thought we did a great job today fighting to the finish," said head coach Katie Robinson. "I thought we had some outstanding swim, specifically from our upperclassmen. Ellie Sills did a fantastic job in her events and it was very exciting to see her just dig deep for the last 25 of the 100 fly and will herself to get her hand on the wall first."
Junior Ellie Sills notched the Green Wave's top finish of the day as she claimed the 100 fly (56.39), and also brought home a third-place finish in the 200 fly (2:04.19). Senior Mia Schachter finished third in the 100 breast (1:04.07) and added a fourth-place finish in the 100 free (52.70).
Freshmen Shelly Zelnick and Lena Hayakawa also added top-three finishes for the Green Wave, claiming third-place in the 200 back and 200 breast, respectively. Lilly Morgan and Emily Ramier made their debuts in the pool, and Caroline McCleary and Anise Muir made their debuts on the board. McClearly was the top finisher for Tulane in both diving events, earning a 1-meter score of 249.83 and a 3-meter score of 238.13.
The Green Wave will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 16 as they travel to West Florida for a two-day quad meet with Air Force and ULAR.
