Tulane Football adds Oklahoma, Ole Miss to Future Schedules
May 21, 2015 | Football
New Orleans - Tulane football has added one of college football's powerhouse programs and extended one of its longest running rivalries to its future schedules as the Green Wave will play three games against seven-time national champion Oklahoma and has added an additional game in its series against the Ole Miss Rebels, as it was announced today by Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson.
Tulane and Oklahoma will meet for the first time and begin the series in 2017 with the first-ever meeting coming in Norman, Okla.
Oklahoma will journey to the Crescent City to kick off the 2021 season against Tulane in Yulman Stadium. The Sooners and the Green Wave will complete the three-game series at Oklahoma in 2024.
"We are excited to begin the series with the University of Oklahoma. There were a lot of moving pieces required to put this together and I thank my good friend (Oklahoma Director of Athletics) Joe Castiglione for working with us to ensure Oklahoma would come back to Yulman Stadium as soon as scheduling would allow," Dickson said.
Tulane and Ole Miss had previously agreed to a four-game contract and played games in 2010 and 2012, both in New Orleans. The Wave were previously scheduled to play at Ole Miss in 2017. However, that game has moved to 2025 and an additional game with the Rebels has been scheduled for 2023 in Yulman Stadium.
"Adding another home game in our long history with the University of Mississippi was an important goal for us. Ole Miss has been a great rivalry for us over the years across all sport programs, and I am glad our schools worked together to continue this great series," Dickson said.
The series between the Green Wave and the Rebels dates back to Tulane's inaugural season of playing college football in 1893. Since that meeting, the schools have met 71 times and were original members of the Southeastern Conference in 1933. The teams last met at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2012.
"It is our goal to schedule where we will have the opportunity to go on the road against some of the nation's best football programs but also have the ability to attract programs to return games to Yulman Stadium," said Dickson added.
