Aug 5, 2015 | Football
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's football squad reported to campus on Wednesday morning and held the first practice of the 2015 fall camp during the afternoon at Yulman Stadium on the Uptown campus.
A total of 95 players reported to the James W. Wilson Jr. Center and the team spent the majority of the morning meeting with representatives from the equipment room, athletics communications, academics, athletic training and strength and conditioning.
For the first time since the 2012 campaign, head coach Curtis Johnson's first at the helm of the program, Tulane practiced on campus to open the fall camp. The 2015 squad hit the first field for the first time as a unit and practiced for nearly three hours.
The Green Wave went through a bevy of conditioning before working on positional drills and on 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 packages. Helmets and shorts were paired with a new set of practice jerseys on a day where cloud coverage kept things cool at the beginning and end of the workout.
Play of the Day
Redshirt sophomore Tanner Lee connected with sophomore Trey Scott on a 15-yard pass in the middle of the field despite three defenders draped on the tight end.
Player of the Day
Redshirt sophomore Tanner Lee. The signal caller looked poised at times in the pocket, dumping off screen passes to running backs when pressured by the defensive line. But the Jesuit product also threaded the needle on a number of occasions, as he hooked up with sophomores Teddy Veal and Terren Encalade on 7-on-7 drills while also tossing a touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone to redshirt-junior Devon Breaux during 11-on-11 drills.
Quote of the Day
"You better learn how to tie those shoes!" - Associate Athletic Trainer David Gambel to sophomore linebacker Rene Fleury, who lost a shoe during drills with the linebacker unit.
