NEW ORLEANS --
In the final meet of the 2015-16 regular season, the women of Tulane swimming and diving will travel to Texas for a two-day quad meet hosted by the University of Houston. The Green Wave will also compete against Rice and LSU on January 29-30 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on Houston's campus. Competition begins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
Last weekend, Tulane hosted its final home meet of the year in the Reily Center Natatorium. The Green Wave honored seven graduating seniors and defeated visiting North Florida by a margin of 190-94. In the competition, freshman Paris Zhang set two personal bests for first-place finishes in the 100 free (51.25) and 100 back (55.18). Tulane also swept the top three placings in ten of the fourteen events of the day.
This weekend will be full of familiar faces, as the Green Wave have already seen their three competitors over the course of this season. Tulane last faced Houston's swimmers at the Phill Hansel Invitational in November. The Green Wave took the no. 2 spot in the placings with a score of 879 in the field of ten attending teams, second only to first place Rice (1,121.5), while the Cougars finished fourth (778). At the meet, Tulane swimmers broke five school records, two NCAA B-Cut times, twenty top-10 finishes and over thirty lifetime bests.
The Green Wave squared off against LSU's team to open the 2015-16 season, fighting hard but falling to the Tigers in Baton Rouge. Despite the loss, Tulane notched six top-three finishes and six of the nine newcomers to the team made their collegiate debuts.
This meet gives the Green Wave the opportunity to compete in the same venue that will host the American Conference Championships that will take place February 17-21. With a strong field of competition in Houston, Rice and LSU, Tulane will also be gearing up for post-season swims.
