Houston -
Tulane's swimming and diving team took to the pool on Saturday morning in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Houston to wrap up the 2015-16 regular season against Houston, Rice and LSU. The Green Wave defeated Rice 197-150 but finished behind LSU (266-87) and host Houston (235-118).
"This meet was a tough meet for us," head coach Katie Robinson said. "We had a mixed bag of results. It was great to get a win against Rice this weekend, it's been a long time since our team has beaten them. We had a handful of highlighted swims, mixed up with some swims that weren't as great as we would like them to be at this point. We've got a lot to work on and two and a half weeks to really fine tune and rest our women to have them peak at conference."
Tulane started off in the 400 medley relay, taking fifth place (3:49.30) behind squads from Houston and LSU. The combined team of Paris Zhang, Mia Schachter, Kaitlin Simpson and Emma Lincoln notched Tulane's second fastest finish this season in the event.
Zhang continued to shine in competition taking first in the 100 free, once again coming close to eclipsing a personal best with her time of 51.36. Also in on top-three action was Schachter, who took third in the 100 breast with her time of 1:03.76.
In the 1-meter dive, senior Maren Kjell (248.20) edged out Lauren Arnold (230.25). The duo finished their season taking seventh and eighth places, respectively.
The Green Wave closed out the meet in the 200 free relay. A-squad swimmers Lincoln, Zhang, Simpson and Schachter finished the day in third with a time of 1:35.26.
With the close of the 2015-16 regular season, the women of Tulane swimming and diving now have just under three weeks to prepare for their return to Houston for the American Conference Championships February 17-20.
