Emerson, Ga. - After a trying first day of competition at the inaugural CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship, No. 7 seeded Tulane was looking to bounce back into the win column. A hard fought match with the No. 2 seed Georgia State dashed the Green Wave's hopes of advancement as Tulane dropped the contest 5-0 on Saturday morning at the Lakepoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga.
"We're disappointed that we didn't advance in the tournament but I am proud of our team and how we played in it," head coach Wayne Holly said. "It took two top 10 teams to knock us out, and even then by a very slim margin. Georgia State played very well this morning, and although we previously were able to defeat them, today they out played us. That's the nature of things when two excellent programs compete hard against each other. I've never seen a team get more out of themselves than this one. That's all we can control."
On court one, senior Jackie Wegner and junior Tea Juric forced the matchup to three sets, but dropped the final contest to the Panthers 15-10. Action on the remainder of the courts went two sets apiece, despite four of the six sets being decided by a margin of only two points.
With the loss to Georgia State, Tulane was eliminated from CCSA Tournament action, posting a 0-3 record. The Green Wave will be back in action next weekend as the team travels to Baton Rouge for LSU's Battle on the Bayou tournament.
